#1 - It's Biology
Question 1:How much do you think chemicals and hormones in our bodies determine our behavior? Explain to what extent. (What's more in control: your voluntary choices, or your involuntary bodily functions?)
- Hormones guide our brain and reproductive system before our birth. They coordinate the body systems such as like growth, metabolism and fertility. Hormones are the reasons why we have this length of legs arms and necks etc. Our behavior differs depending on our body situations. For instance, if our brain is not functioning well , our behavior tends to become weird. So chemicals and hormones pretty much determine huge portion of our behavior since the chemicals and hormones have very close relationship with out body system.
Question 2:Was there ever a time when you felt that your body was more in control of your behavior than the thoughts in your mind? Describe that moment. (If you can't come up with an example, think of a time when you believe a friend or family member was experiencing this).
- When I was dancing to the music, I was holding a cup of drink. My mind knew that if I jump too vigorously, the drink will overflow all over the floor and my hand will get wet. But, my body was saying yes to jumps, so I did jump to music. As a result, my whole clothes got wet and my cup was empty after all. In this experience, I felt that my body was more in control of my behavior than the thoughts in my mind.
Question 3:Do you think you inherited any personality traits from your parents or grandparents? Explain why or why not.
- Yes I think I inherited personality traits from my parents to certain extent. Probably I am more closer to my mum's personality. I am often shy in front of new people and once I get used to the new situation, I am very active. Also, my mum and I are very much alike as we both grab one thing and put a lot of effort in one thing to finish it. As a result of this inherit, I am not a very good multi-tasker. However, I am little bit different with my dad as he is very sociable and he gets close with unfamiliar people very readily. But, I still believer I inherited some personality traints from my parents and they are very helpful to me.
Question 4: Scientists and psychologists have long debated which is more influential in making us who we are: nature (that is, the genetic qualities we inherit and are born with) or nurture (the environment in which we are raised). Which do you think has the greater role in shaping us? Why?
- It is very controversial topic. In my opinion, nurture is more influential in making us who we are. The environment has wider range that it affects us because we experience different things in our lives. Families, schools, friends and neighbors. All these factors are parts of environment that can shape us. Depending on those situations, we can be totally different people. It is scientifically proved that when certain stimulation from environment has applied to a person, he is most likely get influence and have a change in himself. For instance, a child whose parents are divorced might have different personality as he experiences such a bad thing. He might have a bad personality as a result of change in environment. Therefore, i think nurture has the greater role in shaping us.
